Heater Platen
A company which makes athletic uniforms uses a pressure and thermal bonding process to apply some of the lettering and numerals to the jerseys. They have machines to do this, but the platens weren’t satisfactory. B. Dash Fabrication designed and built this to solve the problems.
From the bottom up, there is a 1” thick aluminum plate with 5/16” radius grooves cut in it for the 5/8" diameter heating elements. Next is a formed copper sheet to evenly distribute the heat across the platen. On top is a 3 /4” Teflon® insulator with 11/32” radius grooves mated to the copper. An aluminum mounting frame attaches the assembly to the pneumatic cylinder and provides mounting points for the electrical box and set screws that retain the heating elements.
